Your artistic identity
Anyone can play the latest crowd-pleasers. Artistry begins with knowing what moves you and why. Through guided exploration, you'll connect the music you love to your memories, your identity, and your story, and then put that into words in your own Vinyl Manifesto. It becomes the compass for everything that follows: the equipment you buy, the records you hunt, and the sets you build. With it, you'll learn to build a collection with purpose, separating what you listen to from what you play, and develop the instincts and habits that become your signature.
The art of curation
Next comes the hunt. You'll learn where and how to find records, from record stores and online marketplaces to auctions and flea markets, and how to search, judge condition, identify pressings and avoid overpaying. Then you'll put it into practice on a local crate-digging trip with MJ, learning in the racks what to pull, what to pass on, how to judge a record in hand, and how to negotiate. You'll learn to catalogue, clean, store, and protect your collection, and leave with a clear strategy for what you own, what you're hunting, and where your collection is heading.
Building a set
Finally, you'll bring it all together: understanding which records belong together and why, and building sets as journeys, shaped by energy, tempo, key, and the tension and release that turns a sequence of records into a story.
